Don’t miss out on the fabulous Boca Grande mid and late summer tarpon fishing. July, August, and September offers some of the best tarpon fishing of the year. As we get later into the summer the schools of tarpon move up into Charlotte Harbor and start to feed on the large schools of bait fish. These tarpon are what we call our local or residential fish. These tarpon range from 50 to 150 pounds with the average fish weighing between 70 to 100 pounds. This is one of my favorite times of the year to tarpon fish. There is nothing better than sight casting a lure to a rolling tarpon and watching him eat it. This is as close to catching one on a fly rod as it gets. For those who don’t fly fish.
There are several ways to catch these tackle busting big game fish. I specialize in giving you the full experience Summer Fishing Charters has to offer.
This summer time tarpon fishing starts after the big crowds of the spring tarpon season is over. Many guides have ended their tarpon season for the year. This is when Boca Grande, and Charlotte Harbor offer up some the best tarpon fishing on artificial lures in the world. We fish for the tarpon on light spinning and casting tackle using soft and hard plastic lures. Most of this fishing is sight casting to either single or schools of tarpon. It is not uncommon to hook and jump over 20 tarpon on a six hour trip. While tarpon fishing the Boca Grande area during this time of the year you can expect to see has many as 3,000 tarpon rolling and free jumping around the boat.

Triple Hook-up of Tarpon in Boca Grande Pass!!!
This mid to late summer tarpon fishing is one of Boca Grande’s best kept secrets. What I mean is there are only a small select group of tarpon fishing guides taking advantage of this great tarpon fishery. Sometimes you will have the hole harbor to yourself, and on a busy day there might be eight or ten charter boats. When it comes to tarpon fishing at this time of the year weather seems to be the biggest factor. During the summer in Florida we get late afternoon storms so our fishing is done early in the day, starting about day break. Unusually I am back to the dock by 1PM. However sometimes we will fish later depending on the fishing and weather. So if you are in Florida on vacation with your family from July to October give us a call. If catching a tarpon is on your bucket list you will mark it off your bucket list going tarpon fishing at this time of year. This is also a great tarpon fishery for family vacations with the wife and kids do to the fact we have many smaller fish around 50 pounds. Add an exciting adventure of tarpon fishing for the whole family on your Florida vacation.
